Proven Thoroughbreds struck early on the opening day of the Gold Coast Magic Millions Yearling sale with the acquisition of a DISSIDENT colt from a REDOUTE’S CHOICE mare.

At a sale that has featured an unprecedented number of first-season sires, the offspring of DISSIDENT (5-time Group 1 winner by SEBRING) were particularly impressive, and the stats prove it.

From 13 lots sold during the first session, the calculated average price of DISSIDENT’s yearlings was $258,846 – more than any of his contemporaries.

Lot 97, a strong colt out of the unraced REDOUTE’S CHOICE mare Miss Tenacious, caught our eye and we were lucky enough to secure him for $110k after he was passed in.

The colt has a robust pedigree – 11 of the 13 foals to race on the page are winners, while Miss Tenacious’ half-sister MAJESTIC MUSIC (by AL MAHER) was a multiple Group winner with earnings close to $900k.

Another factor that appealed with this colt was the background of his dam. Miss Tenacious was un-raced due to a nasty bout of travel sickness that required extensive veterinary treatment over six months.

So for her to bounce back from the illness and throw such a strong first foal is testimony to her physiology. To date, no one has definitively explained why, but many un-raced mares go on to become outstanding mothers!
