COSMONOVA landed some good bets when she made it three wins from just six starts at Canterbury on Wednesday.

The daughter of ZOUSTAR was on the third line of betting behind KHAZNAH and MAGNUCAT when our times analyst Nic Ashman sent out his preview on race morning.

“I’d grab a bit of that $4.20 on race morning. I think she starts $3.70-$3.80 maybe shorter.”

On the line COSMONOVA ($3.30) had 0.5L to spare over RUSSIAN SNITZEL ($26) with 0.4L to CES SOIREES LA ($31) in third.

The BM64 Handicap over 1100m clocked a slick 35.71 seconds for the last 600m making it the only race all day to break 35sec for the sectional.

COSMONOVA settled just off the pace on the rail before switching across heels and launching her attack.

“We had to wait for a run, bide our time but when she balanced up she really put them away with a good turn of foot,” jockey Reece Jones said.

“She’s done well with the big weight. She was much more settled today.”

It was a welcome return to form for COSMONOVA following a 9th placed finish at Rosehill last month when rider Alysha Collett suggested the filly had held her breath during periods of the race.

Trainer Joe Pride will now look to place the rising 4yo back in Saturday grade before winter programming transitions to spring carnival racing.

COSMONOVA, a half-sister to multiple Group 1 winner MAGIC TIME, was a $220,000 yearling purchase from the Milburn Creek draft at the 2022 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale.

She was Proven’s 61st winner for 2023-24 with our seasonal earnings now approaching $16.5million.
