The lightly-raced CONTEMPTUOUS roared back into the winner’s circle at Eagle Farm Wednesday under a “steering job” ride from Baylee Nothdurft.
The RUBICK entire has shown immense talent from day one but the 5YO’s career has been limited to just 9 starts due to a dog eared tome of niggling issues.
From the inside gate, CONTEMPTUOUS was always in control of the 1000m Class 3 contest with only Proven stablemate BETTER GET SET offering any sort of challenge in the straight. The 4YO mare was game, beaten just under 2 lengths and will no doubt be improved by her first outing since April.
CONTEMPTUOUS will soon return to Saturday grade to build on his impressive 9 start 4-1-3 record. Trainers Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted have been frustrated by manifold issues that have compromised the horse’s progress but as an older, more seasoned galloper he seems poised to belatedly reward his patient owners.
Curiously, four of the last seven winners for Proven are by RUBICK, who now stands at Swettenham Stud in Victoria.
Wednesday’s victory was Proven’s 6th for the season and capped a double on the day for O’Dea/Hoysted who prepared the winner of the opening event, debutante Single Memo.
