The Matt Hoysted-trained CHAMPAGNE LANE kept her unbeaten record intact with a smart first up victory at the Sunshine Coast Sunday.
Having won on debut over the same track and distance in May, CHAMPAGNE LANE made her seasonal return in the 1000m Benchmark 58 Handicap; this time faced with a soft (5) track as opposed to the heavy (9) surface she struck at her first start.
Jockey Rory Hutchings had the CAPITALIST filly leading the field of seven and showed good acceleration in the home straight to hold a 1.1-length margin on the line.
“She had to do it at both ends so was very impressive,” Hutchings said.
“She was found wanting a little bit late but I had to use her at the start and then use her again.
“It was a great effort and she’s only going to improve.”
CHAMPAGNE LANE completed the 1000m dash in a sharp 57.6 seconds, more than two seconds faster than the previous race – a 2yo maiden won by $1.16 favourite BOOMELLI.
She was a $120,000 yearling from Newgate Farm’s draft at the 2024 Gold Coast Magic Millions Sale. Newgate Farm was also once the home of our Everest champion THINK ABOUT IT and the WILD RULER x TAYLOR’S DREAM 2yo colt in which shares are still available.
CHAMPAGNE LANE’s win comes hot on the heels of PRIVATE EYE’s Group 3 Moonga Stakes triumph at Caulfield and elevates Proven’s tally of winners for the season to 9.
