Promising filly BREAK FREE extended her unbeaten record when she took out the Grafton closer on Sunday.

The Matt Hoysted-trained filly looked well above average winning on debut a fortnight earlier and was sent out the $1.10 favourite in the 1100m BM58 event.

“She actually showed no turn of foot out of the gates,” jockey Nikita Beriman said.

But the tardy getaway proved no barrier with the three-year-old proving a class above her rivals. On the line BREAK FREE ($1.10) had 1.7L to spare over ROCKY ROGUE ($21) with a further 1.9L to ICY SEA ($91) in third.

“She took great benefit from her previous run,” Beriman added before suggesting the plans of tackling a stakes race next start might not be pie in the sky thoughts.

“I don’t think we got out of second gear.

“I can’t wait for her to be tested so we can see her full potential.”

The tentative plan is to set BREAK FREE for the Group 3 Vo Rogue Plate (1300m) at Eagle Farm on December 28 but for the time being she is having a week off in the paddock at Kolora Lodge.

The daughter of CAPITALIST was a $110,000 purchase from the Highgrove Stud draft at the 2023 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.

A win there would be an amazing story given her start to life, where the newborn’s mother, the aptly named FRACTURE, stepped on her foal’s head and fractured BREAK FREE’s skull.

She is Proven’s 54th winner in 2024.
