It’s not often a trainer admits error, as welcome as it may be, but on Sunday at the Sunshine Coast that’s exactly what Matt Hoysted conceded after SEISMIC BOOM roared back to form.

“Gotta put my hand up,” Hoysted acknowledged after the 3yo filly charged home from back in the field to dominate her rivals in the 1200m BM58.

“I’d over-graded this filly at her most recent start chasing lucrative prizemoney and possibly had her in the wrong race earlier in the prep. She’s a big striding filly who takes some winding up so tracks like Toowoomba and Ipswich are too tight.

“It worked out perfectly today because more tempo materialized than I’d thought and she had a beautiful cart into the race. Think the 1200m was more her go as well.”

The daughter of SPIRIT OF BOOM had won impressively on debut over 1000m at Eagle Farm back in the spring but her four subsequent runs prior to Sunday’s breakthrough, had only yielded a midweek second.

The stable will monitor her closely this week to determine whether the campaign continues but it does now appear as if she’s a horse who needs to be ridden with patience on a spacious circuit.

A $90,000 yearling from Kenmore Lodge’s draft at the 2024 Magic Millions Gold Coast March Sale, SEISMIC BOOM takes her record to 2 wins and a 2nd from 6 trips to the races.

The victory concluded a fruitful weekend for both Proven and the Hoysted Stable as promising juvenile APEX PREDATOR kept her unbeaten record intact at Doomben Saturday. Matt also added debutante QUICK RELEASE (by STAY INSIDE) to his victory roll of 2yos in an earlier race on Sunday.

SEISMIC BOOM became the 42nd winner for the season in our colours and the 4th in 5 days after Joe Pride-prepared 3yo’s HARD LINER & NOBLE PRIDE broke maidens at Canberra and Gosford respectively.
