Leading Sydney jockey Tommy Berry will fly to Rockhampton to partner BETTER GET SET in this Sunday $775,000 The Archer (1300m).
Last seen finishing second in the $1million Magic Millions QTIS, BETTER GET SET will resume in the feature off the back of two impressive trials.
The 6YO daughter of BETTER THAN READY currently sits on the second line of betting at $5.50 behind STRAIGHT ACER for the just the third running of The Archer, which takes on the same format as other slot races like The Everest. BETTER GET SET will run in the slot of Veramax Industries.
“She’s a good, fresh horse that has been working well ahead of her return,” Berry said.
“She nearly caused a boilover when resuming last campaign in the Tatts Classic (finished second at $21) and if she brings that form she’ll be right in the mix.”
It’s not often Berry rides in outback Queensland but he is keen to seize the opportunity.
“Jordy Mallyon is a mate of mine, he works with Steven (O’dea) and Matt (Hoysted), he called and said we have a good one heading to Rocky,” Berry added.
“I don’t ride much for Proven Thoroughbreds but I’ve been watching their horses win, often with me riding something in the beaten brigade so I’m keen to link up with them and ride more of their horses.”
Berry won’t ride on Saturday after incurring a recent suspension.
“Sharnee, the kids and I will head north to Brisbane on the Friday and then make our way up to Rockhampton. I can’t wait.”
BETTER GET SET is a 6-time winner with more than $650,000 in prizemoney. She was purchased for $85,000 from the Lyndhurst Stud draft in the 2019 Magic Millions March Yearling Sale.
