Lightly-raced filly BETTER YET improved on a sequence of minor placings to claim a deserved maiden victory at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday.
When the favourite KOZANI kicked clear at the 200m mark, it appeared as though BETTER YET would be consigned to yet another placing but desperate riding from Ben Thompson saw the filly lengthen stride and grab the leader in the shadows of the post.
With the QTIS Fillies bonuses, BETTER YET collected $32,550 for winning the provincial class maiden – a winners’ cheque that is comparable to a midweek BOBS winner in Sydney.
It’s been previously emphasised by Proven Thoroughbreds, but the QTIS bonuses really do set the benchmark when it comes to bonus prizemoney schemes in Australia.
Proven has acquired six QTIS-eligible yearlings in 2023, of which three still have shares available:
DUBIOUS x BIMINI ROAD filly – $4650 inc GST for 2.5% share
YES YES YES x ALNAAS colt – $4125 inc GST for 2.5% share
SPIRIT OF BOOM x TINTO filly – $7800 inc GST for 2.5% share
BETTER YET, a daughter of BETTER THAN READY from the FLYING SPUR mare FLYING STYLE, was purchased for $80,000 from Lyndhurst Stud’s draft at the 2021 Magic Millions Gold Coast March Yearling Sale.
Her record now reads 6 starts for 1 win and 3 placings with earnings of $55,050.
She becomes Proven’s 22nd winner for the year and 33rd since the season renewed on August 1.
