The purple patch of successful 3yo fillies continued at the Sunshine Coast Friday night when the beautifully bred TERMAGANT spreadeagled her rivals, careering away to win by 5 lengths.
Running more than half a second quicker than the other 1000m Maiden won by stablemate STELLAR LADY, the DEEP FIELD filly confirmed the promise she’d revealed when just missing on debut at Ipswich 20 days prior.
The win was not without a sentimental component given her dam, CANDIKA was raced by a Proven syndicate. The now sadly deceased SEBRING mare provided a lot of joy to her band of owners with her 19:5-4-1 record that included a Listed victory in the Princess Stakes and a 3rd behind CAPITALIST in the Magic Millions 2yo Classic.
Wowee – she doesn’t know much but she’s fast!
TERMAGANT is a daughter of our stakes winning filly CANDIKA & we are delighted to race her with breeders @kiaorastud. Congrats to @ODeaHoysted & @justinh_23 for producing the goods! pic.twitter.com/U6mfZHgGYf

In a further emotionally appropriate link, Kia Ora Stud who bred and sold CANDIKA to Proven/O’Dea-Hoysted purchased her back at the conclusion of her racing career and subsequently sold TERMAGANT also to Proven/O’Dea-Hoysted, retaining a significant share in the process.
The victory capped a stellar run from Proven 3yo fillies on both sides of the border in the last couple of months. The Pride stable in Sydney have saddled up IN FLIGHT, COSMONOVA and THE BLACK CLOUD to a combined total of 5 victories whilst Steve & Matt have prepared FORTUNEER, HEYOKA, CARTWHEELS and now TERMAGANT to 6 wins.
Co-trainer Matt Hoysted will now send the $260,000 graduate from the 2022 Inglis Easter Sale to the paddock, suggesting her best days are ahead.
“She’s done a great job being so green and full marks to our apprentice Emily Lang for doing so much work on relaxing this filly. She’ll only improve with time.”
The win was Proven’s 7th in 2024 after a memorable previous 12 months.
