The adage “good horses find a way to win” was referenced by trainer Joe Pride after THINK ABOUT IT enhanced his record to four wins from just five starts at Rosehill on Saturday.
The final race on the Rosehill program represented another substantial class rise for THINK ABOUT IT but the gelding was once again up for the challenge, overcoming a slowly-run tactical affair to win by a neck.
In a race that evolved into a dash home, jockey Sam Clipperton brought the son of SO YOU THINK into a three-wide running line prior to the home turn so as not to lose touch with the leaders.
The eventual runner-up FOR VALOUR proved a worthy adversary over the final furlong but Clipperton was confident the race was in his keeping.
“I probably gave everyone a scare at the 200m when he still had a length to make up but I hadn’t really asked for him yet,” Clipperton said.
“I could tell he was just needing time to balance himself up off that hard sprint at the 600m. Once I asked for him to lift over the last 100m, his class shone through.
“Whether it’s 3 months, 6 months or 12 months, I think he’s going to be a top liner.”
Bookmakers were certainly respecting THINK ABOUT IT’s burgeoning profile, hovering his price around the even-money ($2) quote.
Whilst there is a temptation to get carried away with a horse that has won four from five, trainer Joe Pride is happy to keep a conservative approach for the time being, identifying a 1400m BM78 Handicap back at Rosehill in three weeks’ time for the 4YO.
THINK ABOUT IT becomes Proven Thoroughbreds’ 5th winner this month.
