Proven Thoroughbreds and the in-form Joe Pride stable were prominent in the lucky last race at Randwick on Saturday with ACCREDITED and COSMONOVA finishing first and third respectively.

Classy gelding ACCREDITED bounced back from a disappointing interstate trip with an emphatic 1.3 length victory while COSMONOVA belied her $26 odds, narrowly missing runner-up honours.

It was a month prior when ACCREDITED had travelled to Sandown and started a warm favourite, but the hulking chestnut struggled on the undulating track and racing anti-clockwise for the first time, finishing the best part of six lengths from the winner.

However back at Randwick, the scene of his last three wins, the son of ALL TOO HARD looked right at home.

A typically inspired ride by Nash Rawiller offset barrier 11 and the horse did the rest, taking over at the 100m mark before pulling away from the BM94 field.

“That was awesome,” Rawiller said post-race.

“I gave him a bit of a rev-up out of the gates and I was able to slot in and travel well and he was great. That will give him a bit of confidence now.”

Stablemate COSMONOVA, ridden by Alysha Collett, made the most of an economical run in ACCREDITED’s slipstream before motoring to the line, 0.15 lengths behind the second placed MEMORIA.

In a fitting synergy, both ACCREDITED ($100,000) and COSMONOVA ($220,000) were purchased by Proven from Milburn Creek at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale in Melbourne.

And they are both building similarly impressive records. ACCREDITED has now won more than $400,000 in prizemoney courtesy of seven wins and four placings from 17 starts while COSMONOVA’s 14 trips to the races have yielded five wins and two placings with prizemoney in excess of $325,000.

The pair are likely to line up again at Rosehill in a fortnight, only this time in different races with Pride eyeing the Listed Winter Stakes (1400m) for ACCREDITED and the 1200m BM88 Handicap for COSMONOVA.

The Pride team has been in scintillating form over the last month, striking at 26% and winning seven Saturday metropolitan races, including the Listed Civic Stakes on Saturday with HEADLEY GRANGE.

Interestingly, HEADLEY GRANGE is by the late EXOSPHERE and is the first stakes winner in the first four dams of his pedigree.

ACCREDITED’s triumph elevates Proven’s tally of winners for the season to 54.
