What does our FLYING ARTIE x ORDOS HONOR 2yo colt have in common with Everest favourite JOLIESTAR? The answer may surprise you.
Firstly, they are both out of mares by the leading broodmare sire in the southern hemisphere FASTNET ROCK, whose 2023-24 season broke all kinds of records prompting journalist Bren O’Brien (The Straight) to write:
“The baton has firmly been passed from that pair (ENCOSTA DE LAGO & REDOUTE’S CHOICE to FASTNET ROCK, and the statistics indicate that he is set to enjoy a similar period of dominance at the top.”
Secondly, their grand dams are both by SNIPPETS (like the late, great BLACK CAVIAR!)
Thirdly, they both have the exact same duplication of NORTHERN DANCER (5m x 5m) – did someone say VIA SISTINA?!
And lastly, breed shaping sires RAISE A NATIVE and STAR KINGDOM appear in the exact same position on their pedigrees.
All in all, they share 40.5% of their ancestry which in genetic terms is very high when you consider they are by different stallions out of different mares and were reared on different farms.
It was two Saturdays ago when JOLIESTAR announced herself as a bona-fide Everest contender with an effortless first-up win in the Show County Quality at Randwick (watch replay below).
