In a welcome return to form, CARTWHEELS produced a sharp turn of foot to reel in her benchmark 62 rivals over 1200m at the Sunshine Coast Friday night.
After winning two of her first four starts, the TRAPEZE ARTIST four year-old slightly lost her way late last year, prompting trainer Matt Hoysted to give her a short break.
“She’s a sassy mare,” Hoysted revealed.
“But last time in, she was actually quite relaxed and we initially thought it was just maturity. When she failed to win in several starts however, we spelled for a short time and interestingly she’s been back to her old self since returning to work.”
The victory was also a pattern defying performance on the night, as very few runners were able to win coming from the back when switched to the extreme outside.
Jockey Nikita Beriman, bravely and cleverly as it turned out, showed a lot of patience by riding the mare quietly in the early stages even after beginning on terms, before swinging wide in the straight.
In the early weeks of the second half of season 24–25, Proven has now accrued 29 wins with CARTWHEELS’ triumph. The $70,000 Magic Millions yearling now boasts a record of three wins and four placings from nine starts.
The stable contains a considerable number of unraced two and three-year-olds so there’s a lot to look forward to through the autumn and winter.
