Magic Millions, the benchmark opening act for the Sales’ Season, maintained similar stats to last year but there were some fantastic opportunities in the market.
Whilst records were broken at the high end and the average ($272k) and median ($200k) figures for MM 2025 held steady alongside 2024’s $275k & $200k respectively, the middle to lower sections of the market came under comparative pressure.
As the sale progressed, the critical clearance rate dipped from 87.9% 12 months ago to 81.4% at the close of Book 1. That compelled vendors to reassess and meet the market, if they were genuine sellers.
In these circumstances the Proven Team identified some great value, securing 11 yearlings all of which fell way short of the average.
As usual at this sale, most of the purchases were for our QLD trainer Matt Hoysted who will put the polish on seven of them. Historically, the Joe Pride stable is not very active at Magic Millions January but as with last year, Joe will prepare two while Kerry Parker takes home a pair as well.
