Three-year-old gelding LOTHARIO broke his maiden with a workman-like performance at Gosford on Thursday.

Ridden by Brenton Avdulla, LOTHARIO was a touch slow leaving the barriers but soon found the one out-one back position in the 1100 metre dash.

Despite hanging around the home turn, Avdulla kept the horse’s mind on the job to level up with the leader in the straight and go on to score by a length.

For LOTHARIO to break his maiden at only his third career start hopefully that suggests more wins are in store for the son of Nicconi.

Trainer Joe Pride has a decent opinion of the horse and will no doubt look to place him in another winnable race over the coming weeks.

LOTHARIO’s victory was Proven Thoroughbreds’ 25th winner of the year.
