TRAINER

CHARLOTTE LITTLEFIELD (Pakenham)

Charlotte grew up in Somerset England and from the day she could walk, she found herself riding a horse at her mother’s riding school. She excelled at pony club, mounted games, rode for a National Hunt/Point to Point yard and eventually found her way onto the British Eventing Team at the European Championships in Poland with her home produced Irish Thoroughbred named Jacko’s Delight.

Charlotte first arrived in Australia in 2005. She completed a Bachelor of Business at Deakin University and started pre-training racehorses to make some money on the side. It was then that she met Julian Hay, a former lawyer who had swapped the legal books to follow his passion for breeding and racing.

Charlotte’s growing interest in racing lead her to Cranbourne where she rode trackwork for Pat Trotter and Ken Keys and it didn’t take her long to obtain her own trainer’s licence. In 2015 Charlotte and Julian established Hayfields Racing and just their second starter returned a winner in the shape of Bergerac Rose at Kilmore.

Whilst the stable has grown, Charlotte maintains a very hands on approach, still enjoys riding a few each day and remains inspired by her English roots which influence her training each day.

Charlotte and Julian are passionate about the horses, pride themselves on taking an ethical and transparent approach to racing and forging lasting and honest relationships with their owners.

In 2025, Charlotte trained her first Group winner SHE’S BULLETPROOF, a 4yo mare that went on to run a gallant second in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate at her next start.

Super Seth steps into New Zealand’s elite stallion ranks - Apr 30 2025

The boy is ready to become the man at Waikato Stud but Super Seth might have to wait just a little bit longer.

That was the story behind the numbers when one of the big two of the New Zealand breeding industry, alongside Cambridge Stud, released its stallion fees for next season yesterday, with a significant jump to $75,000 plus GST in the service fee for Super Seth.

Breeders knew a price increase was coming after a breakout season for the former Caulfield Guineas winner in which he sired two Group 1 winners in Australia in Feroce and Linebacker and Karaka Millions winner La Dorada.

La Dorada soon after added the Group 1 Sires’ Produce at Trentham in a dream result for the stud and means Super Seth will be the second-most-expensive standing in New Zealand next season.

“An unbelievable stallion. I don’t feel as though we have had a stallion start like this in New Zealand for a long time,” says Waikato Stud boss Mark Chittick.

“Three Group 1 winners across two countries in a month is freakish, and he keeps backing up with trans-Tasman winners every single week.”

Super Seth’s season could not have come at a better time as the stud’s phenomenal Savabeel nears the end of his breeding career.
