A big part of yearling selection is predicting how they are going to grow. One of our 2021 acquisitions has physically exploded in the five months since purchase.
Invariably every yearling goes through a growth spurt at some stage, however the degree of growth can vary greatly.
The NICCONI x MADE FOR GLORY colt we bought at the Inglis Classic Sale in February was already a good-sized horse in the auction ring, but he has since transformed dramatically.
In the words of Dimity Middleton, who has observed this colt’s growth on the undulating slopes of Redbank North in south-western NSW:
“He’s jumped out of the ground this horse, he’s a tank!”
The above photo comparison clearly shows how this colt has come up in his wither and bulked up in his hindquarter.
His girth – the engine room of a horse’s aerobic system – is now much deeper too.
Joe Pride, who has prepared a Saturday metropolitan winner in each of the last four weeks, will train this colt.
