GREENSPAN appreciated rising to a mile at Newcastle on Saturday with a resounding 1-1/4 length victory.

The RELIABLE MAN gelding is a late maturing type, bred to run much further than 1600m, so it was encouraging to see him to break his maiden as a December three-year-old.

A confident ride by Irish hoop Declan McDonogh saw GREENSPAN settle fourth with cover after jumping from the outside gate of eight.

The gelding loomed ominously on the home turn and went on to score a convincing win for his group of owners and bring up Proven Thoroughbreds’ 45th winner for the year.

Proven Thoroughbreds’ other results on Saturday included two seconds with THE EXCHEQUER, also at Newcastle, and FRANCISCA at the Gold Coast.

GREENSPAN was purchased for NZ$90k at the 2016 New Zealand Bloodstock Select Yearling Sale.
