GOTTA KISS’s class shone through in less than ideal circumstances at Doomben on Saturday.

The Steve O’Dea-trained two-year-old was flushed out three-wide when the pace slowed at the 600m mark.

But a composed ride by regular jockey Stephanie Thornton ensured GOTTA KISS had enough petrol in the tank to mow down Goldsborough in a driving finish.

The official margin was a neck and sealed GOTTA KISS’s third win from just six career starts.

“It was a brilliant win by her today, she relaxed beautifully during the race and did everything right,” Thornton said.

O’Dea now has a decision to make regarding the filly’s next start. One option is to run in the Group 2 Champagne Stakes (1200m) in a fortnight or wait another week for the Listed Bill Carter Stakes over the same track and distance as Saturday’s race.

Either of those events could precede a start in the Group 1 JJ Atkins at Eagle Farm on June 6. In previous years Proven Thoroughbreds has had SESAR, CANDIKA and SIR MOMENTS contest the Group 1 feature without luck – hopefully that changes this year!

GOTTA KISS’s latest victory is also a further endorsement of her younger sister by champion sire I AM INVINCIBLE, who Proven Thoroughbreds purchased at the 2020 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

She is currently 90% sold and not surprisingly has been the subject of significant interest.
