Proven Thoroughbreds concluded the New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka Select Sale on Friday with five purchases.

Lot 530 (pictured), a colt by Savabeel from Millililli, was the first yearling acquired and bought for NZ$140k. He is a beautiful leggy stayer that will be aimed towards the three-year-old classics and prepared by John Thompson at Randwick.

A son of first season sire Redwood was the next purchase by Proven Thoroughbreds. Sold as lot 584 for NZ$90k, he is a lovely type and was one of many impressive yearlings from Redwood’s first crop. Redwood, a son of High Chaparral, won the Group I Northern Dancer Turf Stakes (12f) at Woodbine in 2010 before finishing runner-up in the Group I Hong Kong Vase (2400m) and Group I Dubai Sheema Classic (2410m). This colt is from the Redoute’s Choice mare Our Squeezer, which is a half-sister to stakes winners Full Of Spirit and Lady Cumquat. Joe Pride at Warwick Farm will be the trainer.

A Savabeel filly out of Read My Lips was the third acquisition at the sale and like the Savabeel colt, she is out of a Pins mare – a cross which has an 18.8 percent strike rate of stakes winners to runners. Knocked down for just NZ$45k, this filly represents tremendous value.

The fourth yearling was a daughter of Pins from the Centaine mare Worth Every Cent. The Pins-Centaine mare cross has yielded an 11 percent stakes winning strike rate. Worth Every Cent is a half-sister to Fondle, the dam of stakes winner Combat Kitty. The filly is a neat racy type bought for NZ$54k and will be trained by Steve O’Dea at Eagle Farm.

Lot 898, a son of Shocking from Clipjoint, was the final New Zealand purchase for NZ$35k. The colt is a half-brother to the stakes winner Little Alfie Brown, by D’Cash. He is a very strong masculine horse, good mover and typical of the Shocking stock. Tony McEvoy will be the trainer.
