It was only a humble Grafton Maiden but smart filly EVERYDAY LADY revealed above average talent when surging clear in the Fillies & Mares 1000m Maiden on Tuesday. Trainer Steve O’Dea was concerned that the short course could be the filly’s undoing but despite being hustled along throughout, the 3 year old put the race to bed swiftly inside the final 150m. 

For jockey Paul Hammersley it was a welcome return to the winners’ circle in the PROVEN colours, taking full advantage of the coveted one gate. The relatively sharp time, 58secs, was far superior to the males division run in 59.3secs. And the final sectional of 34s was the slickest last 600m of the day.

The victory was PROVEN’S 34th for the year and continues a vintage run for the O’Dea stable. It was also the inaugural win for one of three PROVEN ALL GIRLS’ Syndicates, putting a big smile on the faces of a number of first time owners.
