Proven Thoroughbreds is hoping it will be a case of third time lucky when SESAR lines up in the Group 1 JJ Atkins (1600m) at Doomben on Saturday.

Retired gallopers SIR MOMENTS and CANDIKA (both trained by Steve O’Dea) came up short in the juvenile feature but went on to carve successful careers in the black and lime green colours.

SESAR (pictured) has already claimed a Group 3 in his short career and can finish his first racing preparation with the ultimate prize for his lucky group of owners.

Steve has been delighted with SESAR’s progress, and win, lose or draw on Saturday, the SEBRING colt has a bright future.

Saturday will also see Proven Thoroughbreds represented at three other venues across the country. Joe Pride’s speedy filly BROOK MAGIC resumes in a 1100m BM77 at Randwick, the ever-consistent COOL SEQUENCE runs in the 1300m BM75 at the Gold Coast for O’Dea, while John Thompson pair GREENSPAN and WATER LINE head to Newcastle for the 1600m C1 and 1850m Maiden respectively.

With the exception of BROOK MAGIC, wet weather could prompt a change in programming for the aforementioned horses, particularly GREENSPAN, which has also accepted for Sunday’s Hawkesbury meeting where stablemates NIJINSKA and MISSED THE ALARM could kick off their careers.

The O’Dea-trained SCALLOPINI rounds out a busy weekend for Proven Thoroughbreds, engaged to run in the Listed Daybreak Lover (1200m) at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday, though will have to contend with a wide draw. Proven Thoroughbreds won the 2014 edition of the race with SIR MOMENTS.

On the trial front, the Thompson stable will roll out THE GOLDEN HIND and BANG ON TARGET at Randwick on Tuesday morning while the O’Dea camp has REALLY REILLY and CHOREOGRAPH scheduled to trial on the same day at Eagle Farm.
