On the racing front, John Bateman’s consistent mare NICCONITA (pictured) can confirm a Country Championships campaign with victory in the 1400m Highway at Rosehill on Saturday. The four-year-old daughter of NICCONI is ready to peak third-up though has to overcome a wide barrier. In-form apprentice Robbie Dolan takes the ride which will afford the mare 2kg weight relief.
Also on Saturday, MASTERATI returns for the Steve O’Dea camp over 1000m at Eagle Farm. The bold front-runner has drawn ideally in barrier one and won his most recent trial.
Stablemate SIENNA ROSE is another acceptor at the meeting however Steve is inclined to wait until a 1350m fillies and mares’ event at Doomben on Wednesday.
Three-year-old filly DIPLOMATIC MISS is scheduled to run on the same day in the 1200m maiden, following an encouraging second on debut over 1000m at the Sunshine Coast.
Our final and fifth runner for the week will be the exciting THE BLACK TIDE at Ipswich on Thursday. The half-sister to four-time Group I winner SANTA ANA LANE began her career in perfect fashion when scoring by 2.25 lengths at the same venue on January 5.
Meanwhile at Warwick Farm on Tuesday, the un-raced KYLEASE is due to trial for a third time having had wide draws and wet tracks delay her debut. The daughter of CHOISIR has displayed promise for trainer Joe Pride, winning both trials this time in.
O’Dea trainees TOO HOT TO HOLD and FRANCSICA are also down to trial on Tuesday morning at Doomben.
