At the 2026 Inglis Easter Sale, Proven Thoroughbreds made an exception for a truly exceptional colt.
Lot 85, the SNITZEL x SHADES OF ROSE colt from Arrowfield Stud was knocked down for $400,000. This is the highest price Proven has EVER paid for a colt.
When you get into this price range, there is no room for compromise and this colt was worth every cent.
It’s not often you can classify $400,000 as good value but when you consider the dam traded for $1.6million and the sire’s career high service fee of $247,500, there is no doubt the vendor was expecting more from the sale of the first foal.
And what a first foal he is. Some first foals can be on the smaller side. This colt, however, is most definitely on the bigger side which was one of his main attractions as many of SNITZEL’s top colts are above average size (eg SHINZO, SWITZERLAND, IN THE CONGO, TRAPEZE ARTIST, WANDJINA, WILD RULER, etc).
Another obvious lure was the fact he is a three-quarter relation to SCALLOPINI – a marvellous son of SNITZEL Proven purchased in 2016 for $200,000. During a career that spanned a remarkable 7 years, SCALLOPINI won 13 races (6 at stakes level) for earnings of $1,154,208.
Joe Pride will be the trainer and given this colt’s pedigree, we are determined to give him every chance to make it as a colt. The Pride stable will be represented by Group 1 winning colt ATTICA in this Saturday’s Doncaster Mile (1600m) at Randwick.
The 2026 Inglis Easter Sale was yet another example of how the thoroughbred industry is seemingly impervious to external market influences. Remarkably, the SNITZEL x SHADES OF ROSE colt was still comfortably under the sale average of $464,108.
