After a week that saw the welcome acquisition of a 3/4 relation to our grand old galloper SCALLOPINI at the Inglis Easter Sale, a six strong Proven team heads to the races this week, including a starter on Day 1 of The Championships at Randwick.
Wagga Cup winner FLYING BANDIT (pictured) will be out to redeem himself in the Group 2 Chairman‘s Quality (2600m). The big chestnut gets to a marathon journey for the first time having finished unplaced in three runs this preparation.
Elsewhere, the Hoysted team has runners at Doomben, Eagle Farm and the Gold Coast, while Joe Pride saddles up stakes placed mare COSMONOVA at Rosehill on Monday if weather conditions suit.
Lot 85 from the 2026 Inglis Easter Sale was secured by Proven and Pride Racing for $400,000 on Sunday. A colt by SNITZEL, he’s the first foal from Group winning mare SHADES OF ROSE. More details HERE.

SIRE ON FIRE – PRIDE OF DUBAI
Virtually a case of what might have been last Saturday for this grossly underrated sire. His well travelled 8yo stalwart DUBAI HONOUR nearly stole the 2400m Group 1 Tancred from the top mare AELIANA. Then his iron mare PRIDE OF JENNI, also rising 9, went within the barest possible margin of victory in the 2000m Group 1 Australian Cup. Throw in a Stakes victory in Adelaide over 1200m (SHADHAVAR) and you get some idea of what an astonishing day it almost was for this extremely versatile stallion!
BLACK BOOKER – BANG ON TIME
Didn’t actually race in the past week when scratched because of a wide barrier, but her trial on Tuesday at Kembla Grange was unmissable. A late starting 4yo mare with just the one run under her belt, BANG ON TIME will be hard to hold out in whichever maiden she next contests.
Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners
Doomben Wednesday April 1
Class 2 Plate 2030m
ROCK THE SUNRISE
Matt Hoysted/Daniel Moor
Comment: On a quick seven day turnaround as he tackles 2000m for the first time. Drawn the coveted 1 alley so should be well placed throughout. Bred to run the trip and racing as if he’ll enjoy it but always an unknown until proven under race conditions.
Class 5 Handicap 1350m

OCEAN ZAR
Matt Hoysted/Daniel Moor
Comment: Looking to make amends after flopping unceremoniously and uncharacteristically first-up. The change to a senior rider who knows her well should precipitate improvement in this company though ideally suited to a longer trip when conditioned by at least one more run.
Eagle Farm Saturday April 4
BM70 Handicap 1830m

MELTDOWN
Matt Hoysted/Jag Guthmann-Chester
Comment: Gets out to a middle distance for the first time following a good run on his home track last start. Gives the impression he will relish the rise in trip though has the challenge of the outside gate to encounter.
Randwick Saturday April 4
G2 Chairmans Quality 2600m

FLYING BANDIT
Kerry Parker/Jay Ford
Comment: Struggling to regain his exemplary form from 12 months ago. However gives the impression this extended journey will suit even though has yet to be placed in his two tries beyond 2000m. Does also require a dry surface to do his very best.
Gold Coast Saturday April 4
QTIS 3YO Maiden Plate 1000m

HEAD OF THE RIVER
Matt Hoysted/Jaden Lloyd
Comment: Has her hoof on the till after placing at 3 of her last 4 starts. Drawn well in a race to suit but needs to break through soon to endorse the early ability she revealed.
Rosehill Monday April 6
BM94 Handicap 1100m

COSMONOVA
Joe Pride/Andrew Adkins
Comment: Drawn another sticky barrier from the perilous 1100 m start at Rosehill. If forecast rain arrives she would be an unlikely runner but otherwise well placed in a race of this type.
