There are undeniable parallels between INDEFENSIBLE’s win at Warwick Farm on Wednesday and THE BLACK CLOUD’s stakes success at Eagle Farm last Saturday.
Both are Joe Pride-trained mares sold by Golden Grove Stud at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale.
They were only $10,000 apart in price and have recently revealed a preference for the specialist distance of 1000m.
Pride astutely identified this distance tweak with THE BLACK CLOUD which conjured an overdue stakes win in the Listed Bribie Handicap.
Similarly, INDEFENSIBLE had fallen short of Pride’s expectations before the switch to five furlongs two starts ago produced a 2nd and breakthrough metropolitan victory on her home track of Warwick Farm.
The daughter of ALL TOO HARD now looks well on her way to bigger things, after displaying dynamic acceleration to defeat BM72 rivals.

Jockey Tyler Schiller allowed the 4yo mare to find her feet early in the contest and despite spotting the leaders some eight lengths at the 600m mark, INDEFENSIBLE quickly improved her position, circled the field and won by three-quarters of a length.
“That was a really strong win. I think we’re on the right track with her now over these shorter trips,” Pride said.
“She was very powerful through the line which was something we weren’t seeing over longer races which were clearly testing her stamina.
“The way she won; I feel like a Saturday win won’t be beyond her at all. She’s a tough mare.”
The hulking chestnut becomes Proven’s 17th winner for the season.
