A stakes runner, four debutantes and a last start winner form a busy week ahead for the Proven Thoroughbreds team.
The Matt Hoysted-trained CHAMPAGNE LANE will attempt to become Proven’s second winner of the Listed Mode Plate (1200m), joining STROLL (2022), when she lines up at Doomben on Saturday.
The daughter of CAPITALIST was an eye-catching 4th two weeks ago over 1000m in a feature 3YO Handicap at the Sunshine Coast.
Among our first starters this week are OBSIDIAN DREAM (Joe Pride), PROXIMA CENTAURI (Joe Pride), LOVE REBEL (Matt Hoysted) and BROADWAY STREET (Kerry Parker). There’s typically an equal mix of excitement and trepidation when the covers are taken off an unraced horse as you really don’t know how they will respond to the cauldron of raceday.
Meanwhile TAKE A BOW can post back-to-back victories this Friday at the Sunshine Coast, a track that has yielded three of her four career wins.
It was disappointing to have last Saturday’s Kembla meeting abandoned due to a power outage. A rare incident but one that of course coincided with us having four good chances! That’s racing as they say…
The Rosehill Saturday meeting saw KING’S SECRET return with a very encouraging 3rd while ACCREDITED was brave but didn’t quite see out the 1500m when 4th in the Group 3 Festival Stakes.

SIRE ON FIRE – STREET BOSS
What an incredible spring it has been for STREET BOSS, capped with yet another 3yo stakes winner last weekend in the shape of Blue Sapphire heroine MOTORSPORTS. She joins TENTYRIS, GREEN SPACES, TEMPTED and PERICLES as stakes winners for the Darley stallion since the turn of the season. Look out for GREEN SPACES in the autumn, he looks top drawer.
BLACK BOOKER – KING’S SECRET
It wasn’t a pretty watch first-up as he had to go back from the outside barrier around the notorious 1100m Rosehill circuit and he was shunted wider and wider as the race went on. Lumping 60.5kg, he still had the temerity to run on into third, just peaking on his run over the last 50m. He will be much improved for that effort and make his presence felt in a BM94 at Randwick in a couple of weeks, where he plunges in weight.
Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners
Warwick Farm Wednesday December 3
Maiden Handicap 1000m
OBSIDIAN DREAM
Joe Pride/Jay Ford
Comment: Debutante fitted with three trials, the latest of which she was green but found the line ok. Never easy in city maidens against well bred opponents so will be interesting to see how she measures up.
BM72 Handicap 1000m

INDEFENSIBLE
Joe Pride/Tyler Schiller
Comment: It’s been a bit rocks or diamonds in her short career to date with two victories among some disappointing performances. Barrier one in a small field will give her every chance to relax and be hitting the line.
BM72 Handicap 1600m

OTONO
Kerry Parker/Jay Ford
Comment: Pulled up coughing after running 7th of 8 over 2000m at Hawkesbury. Back to a mile in a race restricted to 5yo+ mares gives her a good chance to bounce back.
BM72 Handicap 1200m

ICONIC TREASURE
Kerry Parker/Jay Ford
Comment: Finished last on resuming at Canterbury a couple of weeks ago but was doing his best work late in a fast run race and was only 3.5 lengths from the winner. Is a two-time winner second-up and this is an attractive drop in grade.
Sunshine Coast Friday December 5
Class 4 Handicap 1000m

TAKE A BOW
Matt Hoysted/TBA
Comment: Returns to the scene of her win last start and indeed two of her other three career victories. Just needs to be within striking distance at the 600m to figure in the finish again.
Maiden Handicap 1100m

LOVE REBEL
Matt Hoysted/TBA
Comment: First starter coming off two 1050m trials so fitness should be of no concern here. Obviously gives away race experience but has shown enough to suggest she can produce something in what looks only an average maiden.
Randwick-Kensington Friday December 5
3YO Fillies Maiden Handicap 1300m

PROXIMA CENTAURI
Joe Pride/TBA
Comment: Staying bred NZ filly on debut. Doubt she can trouble the scorer first-up but this is all part of her education. May not run due to the forecast heat.
F&M BM64 Handicap 1400m

ELIVINA
Kerry Parker/TBA
Comment: Ran home resolutely over this track and trip on Melbourne Cup day, only tiring late to finish within 0.8 lengths of the winner. Will strip much fitter for that and is a winner second-up previously.
Doomben Saturday December 6
L Mode Stakes 1200m

CHAMPAGNE LANE
Matt Hoysted/TBA
Comment: Slow away and was doing her best work late when working home strongly into 4th at the Sunshine Coast Saturday metro meeting. Was probably run off her feet a little going back to 1000m there, so expecting her to appreciate the tempo of 1200m. Each-way.
Gold Coast Saturday December 6
QTIS 3YO Maiden Handicap 1200m

HIT THE SWITCH
Matt Hoysted/TBA
Comment: Coming off a very sound first-up run over 1000m at the Gold Coast, running on into 2nd after a slow getaway. If he can execute at the start, he will take some beating here.
Hawkesbury Sunday December 7
Midway Maiden Handicap 1300m

BROADWAY STREET
Kerry Parker/TBA
Comment: Debutant that has looked good at the trials, the latest of which he wasn’t knocked around behind some seasoned metropolitan performers. Gives the impression he will run at least a mile so 1300m first-up should suit.
