A busy Saturday awaits the Proven Thoroughbreds team with a host of chances in NSW and QLD, headlined by the veteran PRIVATE EYE and exciting up-and-comer LARADO.

PRIVATE EYE is set to tackle the $1million 7 Stakes (1600m) at Randwick but it was the same old story at the barrier draw as the gelding came up with gate 9 of 11. Quite extraordinary how many times PRIVATE EYE has drawn wide in his career but it is what it is so we just have to hope he gets some luck in running. Adam Hyeronimus will ride the 8yo for the first time under race conditions as Nash Rawiller has been engaged to ride rival LINDERMANN.

FLYING BANDIT has also drawn poorly in 15 for the Group 3 Kingston Town Stakes (2000m) however it may be purely academic as he needs six scratchings to gain a start in the field. Trainer Kerry Parker will at least be represented by Midway runner OTONO at Randwick’s feature meeting.

Meanwhile in QLD, brilliant debut winner LARADO (pictured) heads to Eagle Farm for a 1000m Class 1 – a race that will tell us a lot more about this talented Matt Hoysted-trained 4yo. Hoysted will also saddle up ROCK THE SUNRISE and TAKE A BOW, as well as HEYOKA at the Gold Coast.

Then on Sunday, another recent debut winner for the Hoysted stable – SMUDGED – heads to the Sunshine Coast. Joining her on the float will be two-time winner MOONFLEET.

SIRE ON FIRE – HARRY ANGEL

Sired an interstate stakes double last Saturday via ARKANSAW KID and WATCHME WIN. Interestingly, 50% of his career stakes winners have now won multiple stakes races. This Saturday, HARRY ANGEL again has a strong hand with ANGEL CAPITAL and PRIVATE HARRY holding early favouritism for their respective races – the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) and Group 2 The Shorts (1100m).

Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners

Doomben Wednesday September 17

Maiden Handicap 1200m

TINTAURA

Matt Hoysted/Jag Guthmann-Chester

Comment: Her return to racing has been delayed by wide gates and finds herself jumping from barrier 6 of 10 here which is acceptable. Likely to need further to show her best so looking for her to be hitting the line late.

BM75 Handicap 1200m

SHOT OF WHISKEY

Matt Hoysted/Daniel Moor

Comment: Looks well placed coming back to midweek grade after finding the ground too firm at Eagle Farm in a Class 4 handicap. Could be over the odds in a small field.

Randwick Saturday September 13

7 Stakes 1600m

PRIVATE EYE

Joe Pride/Adam Hyeronimus

Comment: Had to do a bit too much work early and the effort told late as he finished runner-up in the Tramway. Once again faces a wide barrier so luck in running will be critical. Ideally if he can take a sit, he should see out the mile.

G3 Kingston Town Stakes 2000m

FLYING BANDIT

Kerry Parker/Jay Ford

Comment: Drawn the carpark but unlikely to get a run anyway as he was sixth emergency when acceptances were declared on Wednesday. Unsuited at the weights but needs to run here if he’s any chance of lining up in The Metropolitan in a fortnight.

Midway BM72 Handicap 1600m

OTONO

Kerry Parker/Jason Collett

Comment: Strips fitter after doing her best work late when resuming over 1400m here a fortnight ago. Really came into her own once she hit this distance range last preparation so expecting her to be very competitive.

Eagle Farm Saturday September 20

Class 2 Handicap 1400m

ROCK THE SUNRISE

Matt Hoysted/TBA

Comment: Ready to win following two sound runs back from a break. Form from last campaign stacks up well for this grade. Small query staying at 1400m third-up (as opposed to a mile) but has the class to be winning this with a positive ride.

Class 1 Handicap 1000m

LARADO

Matt Hoysted/TBA

Comment: Exciting galloper who began his career in the best way possible when thumping his opposition by four lengths at the Gold Coast last month. Never easy for horses having their first start outside of maiden grade but he looks well above average.

QTIS BM65 Handicap 1200m

TAKE A BOW

Matt Hoysted/TBA

Comment: Talented mare on her day but continues to cost herself at the start. Was again slow to muster last time and finished unplaced as an odds-on favourite at the Gold Coast. Has since trialled against some handy types and now gets to 1200m where the early speed should be a touch more sedate which may allow her to take up a more prominent position. Gets the barrier blanket first time.

Gold Coast Saturday September 20

Class 4 Plate 1200m

HEYOKA

Matt Hoysted/TBA

Comment: Finished on the heels of the placegetters second-up at Doomben over the 1200m. Narrowly beaten at her only run here back in February when leading and collared late. Each-way chance again.

Sunshine Coast Sunday September 21

BM65 Handicap 1600m

MOONFLEET

Matt Hoysted/TBA

Comment: Put in a much improved last start when held up on the fence halfway up the straight and had to come across five sets of heels to find clear space. That was her second-up run and both her wins have been third-up. Chance

Class 1 Handicap 1300m

SMUDGED

Matt Hoysted/TBA

Comment: Made her long awaited debut a fortnight ago at the Gold Coast and got the money, albeit in a slowly run race. Showed good race sense there and is sure to improve rising from 1200m to 1300m
