Kerry Parker’s promising 4yo WILD THOUGHTS handled a class rise and bottomless track with aplomb at Kembla on Thursday.

After disposing of his maiden over the same 1500m course just 12 days prior, WILD THOUGHTS was a short-priced favourite to repeat the dose, albeit switching from a good (4) surface to a genuine heavy (10).

Most of the SO YOU THINK breed have no problems on rain affected ground and WILD THOUGHTS proved to be no exception, as he produced a tradesman-like performance for rider Jay Ford.

“I probably could have hit the front 100m earlier than I did but I thought I’ll just let him go through his gears on the very testing ground,” Ford said.

“I don’t think he let go as well as we know he can but he still got through the conditions fine which adds another string to his bow.

“On top of the ground you’re going to see a more dynamic finish.

“He’s still learning, and I think is going to be a better horse again in six months.”

In four career outings, WILD THOUGHTS is yet to finish out of the placings with two wins, a second and a third. Including the bonus earned from his Inglis Xtra Race Series Maiden win last month, the gelding has already accumulated $159,175 in prizemoney – a healthy return on a $45,000 yearling!

Kerry is keen to try WILD THOUGHTS over a mile next start and possibly further later in the preparation.

Bred and sold by Valiant Stud in the Hunter Valley, WILD THOUGHTS is Proven Thoroughbreds’ first winner for the new season which began on August 1.
