Proven Thoroughbreds will be chasing wins in three states this Saturday while a 2yo debutant will also be unveiled on Wednesday.

Runners at Caulfield, Eagle Farm and Rosehill form a busy Saturday for the black and lime green as we head into the final month of the 2024-25 season.

TERMAGANT and BREAK FREE (pictured) head up our representation at Eagle Farm’s Tatts Tiara meeting, THE BLACK CLOUD heads south of the border to Caulfield, while KING’S SECRET stays in Sydney to race at Rosehill. All four contenders are set to start in the market of their respective races but as is always the case, a good deal of luck is also required to win at this level.

But before that, trainer Matt Hoysted will take the covers off first starter HIT THE SWITCH at Doomben’s midweek card. The 2yo gelding has caught the eye in recent trials but will have to be good to win from barrier 11 of 12.

Then at Hawkesbury on Thursday, promising SO YOU THINK 3yo WILD THOUGHTS resumes in the 1300m maiden for Kerry Parker.

It was great to see the Joe Pride-trained ACCREDITED bounce back to form in the closer at Randwick last Saturday following a disappointing interstate trip to Sandown where he didn’t appear to handle the track. Stablemate COSMONOVA was hot on ACCREDITED’s heels in third place on Saturday and both are set to head back to the races in a fortnight – providing the track isn’t too wet (the current weather forecast looks quite ominous).

This week’s SECTIONALS REVIEW article (authored by form analyst Nic Ashman) unpacks the impressive wins of SHE’S AN ARTIST and SPLASHBACK at Flemington while also taking an early look at the final Group 1 of the season – the Tattersalls Tiara at Eagle Farm this Saturday.

SIRE ON FIRE – ZOUSTAR

Showed why he is the country’s leading stallion with a gala Saturday that yielded an incredible eight winners. That haul followed a treble on Wednesday and a four-timer the previous Saturday. Now what if we told you Proven currently has shares available in a well-bred ZOUSTAR colt from just $4900? CLICK HERE for more details.

BLACK BOOKER – COSMONOVA

Ready to peak third-up following two encouraging runs back from a spell, including a fast-finishing third behind stablemate ACCREDITED last Saturday. Just need a reasonably dry surface at her next run and she will be hard to beat, especially given she has won when third-up in her last two preparations.

BET WITH NIC

Our times analyst Nic Ashman will be publishing his popular best bet for Saturday’s racing on Friday.

Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners

Randwick-Kensington Wednesday Jun 25

F&M BM72 Handicap 1300m

INDEFENSIBLE

Joe Pride/Jeff Penza

Comment: Made the notoriously difficult leap out of maiden grade when overcoming a torrid run to win around Wyong last start. This harder again but is on the up.

C&G BM72 Handicap 1300m

ELLE HUDSON

Joe Pride/Alysha Collett

Comment: Stayer resuming so unlikely to trouble the scorer over this trip but will be doing his best work late and if they overdo things in front he could sneak into a place.

Doomben Wednesday Jun 25

2YO Maiden Handicap 1110m

HIT THE SWITCH

Matt Hoysted/Jag Guthmann-Chester

Comment: 2yo son of Golden Slipper winner FARNAN on debut. Recent trials encouraging but faces a task from a wide gate around Doomben. Look for him to be running on late.

Hawkesbury Thursday Jun 26

Midway Maiden Plate 1300m

WILD THOUGHTS

Kerry Parker/Jay Ford

Comment: Promising type. Finished third over this distance at his only previous start last preparation. That’s turned out to be a strong formline and this doesn’t look to be a deep race.

Eagle Farm Saturday Jun 28

3YO Fillies Plate 1200m

BREAK FREE

Matt Hoysted/Nikita Beriman

Comment: Chasing her fourth win from only five starts. Resumed on a heavy track at the Sunshine Coast earlier this month but was still way too good for her rivals, winning by three lengths. Looks ready for 1200m now and drawn the inside.

BM85 Handicap 1200m

TERMAGANT

Matt Hoysted/Nikita Beriman

Comment: Classy mare ready to fire back at Eagle Farm. Didn’t have the best of luck on resuming when burdened with 62.5kg. Drops 5.5kg here and has come up with a favourable barrier.

Rosehill Saturday Jun 28

TAB Handicap 1100m

KING’S SECRET

Joe Pride/Andrew Adkins

Comment: Impressive winner over this track and trip two starts back but subsequently performed a touch below expectations in an identical race. He did get a bit stirred up before the race and was going from a heavy (8) to a soft (5). This run will likely tell us if he is a genuine wet tracker or adept on firmer going as well.

Caulfield Saturday Jun 28

F&M BM84 Handicap 1100m

THE BLACK CLOUD

Joe Pride/Tom Prebble (a2)

Comment: Looked the winner first-up at Canterbury but was bloused late. Returns to Melbourne for the first time since winning down the Flemington straight and looks well placed after the claim of an in-form apprentice. Drawn a touch wide but should have enough gate speed to offset that.
