The barrier gods have smote PRIVATE EYE once more, drawing barrier 14 in both the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield and the Group 2 Hunter (1300m) at Newcastle on Saturday.
After reviewing the respective fields on Wednesday morning, trainer Joe Pride opted for The Hunter where the rail will be in the true position, compared to 6m at Caulfield. PRIVATE EYE will have to lump 60kg in the $1 million feature but does bring the best formlines into the race, having run a gallant 6th in The Everest before finishing 5th in the Russell Balding Stakes which has produced a subsequent Group 1 winner in the shape of SUNSHINE IN PARIS.
PRIVATE EYE will be joined on the float to Newcastle by veteran stablemate STOCKMAN who contests the Listed Beauford (2300m) after a much improved effort in the Rosehill Gold Cup (2000m) where he finished within a length of the winner.

Meanwhile, 3yo filly INDEFENSIBLE is set to make her debut for Joe Pride at Canterbury’s first Friday night meeting of the season.

Got his first Group 1 winner courtesy of TREASURETHE MOMENT’s victory in the VRC Oaks (2500m) last week. We’ve been banging on for a while now about how this sire is doing things most don’t and to get a G1 winner in your first crop is very good sign.
