Last week on his home track at Kembla, Kerry, who embodies the first four of these vital components though hitherto deprived of the latter, nurtured the unfashionably bred Proven filly TAKE YOU THERE to an emphatic debut victory.
The term “nurtured” is very appropriate because when being broken in, TAKE YOU THERE ripped her hind leg to shreds putting a racing career in grave doubt and obliterating any plan to syndicate her.
But with time, patient handling and the Parker touch, the 3yo triumphed at odds of $31 on debut! Over the next 48 hours, Kerry saddled two more winners at $12 and $8 respectively. Indeed, more than a third of his winners this season started at double figure odds.
Why are the starting prices relevant? Well, it reveals how the marketplace perpetually underrates the Parker team. His ROI (return on investment when backing all of his starters) currently sits at 0.88, a figure comparable to the best trainers in the country.
To balance that, when given “opportunity” with horses that the marketplace expects to win (priced at $2 or less), Kerry has a 100% strike rate in 2023-24.
A multiple Group 1 winning trainer, with reasonably priced fees and access to initiatives like the Provincial Championship Series, Midway Races, Provincial-restricted races and the 4 Pillars Race, having a horse prepared by Kerry makes a lot of sense.
