Such is the ebb and flow of racing fortune, that after a forgettable autumn, the Racing Gods have conjured a memorable winter for the black and lime green colours.
From Dalby to Flemington the winners (and champagne!) have flowed generously with 10 trips to the winner’s circle in the last month, Wednesday’s additions to the scoreboard being the consistent LITTLE COINTREAU and the 3yo TOWN CRIER.
The latter made it two on the bounce on Day 1 of the time-honoured Grafton Carnival with a gritty performance to lump 61kg and get the job done in the Showcase Class 2 of 1100m.
Meantime back on the Kensington track at Randwick, LITTLE COINTREAU kept his exemplary, genuine record intact, overcoming difficulties to post his fourth win from his last 7 starts. The rising 5yo has only missed a place once in a dozen trips to the races.
Rider Nash Rawiller and LITTLE COINTREAU overcame a scrimmage in the home straight and repelled a pair of late challengers to take his career prizemoney earnings past $150,000.
The joyous double raised the number of calendar year winners to 36 and for the 23/24 season, the tally now reads at 56. These 2 geldings are having successful preparations but it’s the girls who’ve really scooped the pool since winter launched in June, specifically the 3yo fillies.
IN FLIGHT is in rare form making it a trio of Saturday wins on the trot at Randwick last Saturday whilst THE BLACK CLOUD (winner of 4 from 6) has either won or run 2nd at every start, culminating in her tidy victory down the straight at Flemington late last month.
Not to be outdone, the Brisbane based fillies have also kept the statisticians busy. TERMAGANT recorded her third successive victory at the Sunshine Coast’s postponed Cup Day meeting last Sunday and looks capable of contesting better races. Also, the juvenile filly TAKE A BOW who walloped her country rivals on debut at Gatton, attempts the significant step up to Saturday metropolitan grade at Eagle Farm Saturday.
We still have shares available in our crop of yearling fillies by sires like WOOTTEN BASSETT, TRAPEZE ARTIST, PROISIR, SHAMUS AWARD and SPIRIT OF BOOM.
Nash gets the cash! 💰
