The big wet has claimed meetings in multiple states recently with a backlog of programs to be re-run across the eastern seaboard this week.

Last Saturday’s postponed Sunshine Coast meeting will now be staged this Sunday with our progressive three-year-old TERMAGANT (pictured) a chance to run there with the other option being Doomben on Saturday.

It’s a timely reminder to check out Nic Ashman’s wet track sire guide published recently, where our resident form expert highlights the pedigrees to follow on bottomless tracks when there’s minimal wet track data available.

In Flight can seal this season’s BOBS title with victory on Saturday at Randwick. The mare has won three of her four starts this campaign with a total BOBS bonus of $56,250. She was bred by Kerrie Tibbey at Goodwood Farm, the same stud that bred our dual Everest placegetter PRIVATE EYE. Both gallopers were purchased from the Adelaide Magic Millions sale.

SIRE ON FIRE – ZOUSTAR

Became just the second sire ever to record 200 winners in a season last week. An exclamation point was put on that milestone with RIGHT TO PARTY taking out the Creswick Stakes at Flemington in emphatic fashion. The filly was held up multiple times but charged to the line. Her formlines boast FLEETWOOD and PRINZERRO, which ties in with our progressive sprinter THE BLACK CLOUD.

BLACK BOOKER – SHOT OF WHISKEY

Huge return to the winners circle with a 2.5L win at Toowoomba smashing the class benchmark by more than 5L. He ran the best last 800m of the day and we’ll look to progress him through the grades now that he’s had this confidence booster.

BET WITH NIC

After successfully tipping a place double with Flemington winners STEEL RUN and RIGHT FOR PARTY last Saturday, our resident times analyst Nic Ashman likes DENY KNOWLEDGE in the re-scheduled Caloundra Cup on Sunday.

“I think DENY KNOWLEDGE did a terrific job last start when coming back on the line. She’ll lead the Caloundra Cup field for a long way and if the track dries up, suspect they’ll find it hard to run her down.”

Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners

Canberra Wednesday July 10

Maiden Plate 1280m

OTONO

Joe Pride/Nick Heywood

Comment: On debut. Both trials in town have been ok for a horse we feel will be much better under race conditions and over a bit further. Can win here back at country level after trialling at metropolitan level.

Maiden Plate 1280m

SLIPSTREAMING

Kerry Parker/Nick Heywood

Comment: Has been plain at both runs this time in but race shape has also been against. Third-up last prep was a terrific 2nd at Newcastle and now that she’s out to 1750m she should be ready to show us something.

Eagle Farm Wednesday July 10

BM70 Handicap 1400m

HEYOKA

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Kyle Wilson-Taylor

Comment: Should’ve let her slide in front last time instead she was bailed up looking for a run behind the lead. Has never been to the races third-up and now that she’s fit we’ll be quite positive on her.

SPIN DOCTOR

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Boris Thornton

Comment: Has only had one start since September last year but that was against superior opposition to this. Looked ok in a recent trial behind HEYOKA. Query is 1400m first-up with limited runs in recent times but he has the ability.

Ipswich Thursday July 11

BM70 Handicap 800m

UNDERHAND

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Cejay Graham

Comment: Speedster resuming with a terrific record in these short course races. Won fresh last prep this course and distance and has finished in the quinella in 7 of her 10 starts. Chance again.

Randwick Saturday July 13

BM72 1100m

IN FLIGHT

Joe Pride/Jay Ford

Comment: Beat the class benchmark by almost 5L in BM72 grade last start carrying 56.5kg. In form filly that looks well placed again on a rain-affected surface.

Newcastle Saturday July 13

BM68 Handicap 1400m

LICHESTER

Kerry Parker/Lee Magorrian

Comment: Was less than 2L off the winner first-up at Kembla and her ratings lifted nearly 5L when second-up last prep. Expect her to be in the finish here.

Gold Coast Saturday July 13

Maiden Handicap 1900m

ENLIGHTENING

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/TBA

Comment: Ready to show us something now after two runs over shorter trips. Will no doubt improve with a run at this unfamiliar distance but watch for improvement here.

Sunshine Coast Sunday July 14

QTIS 3YO Handicap 1000m

TERMAGANT

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Emily Lang (a)

Comment: Was set to run last week in the postponed Sunshine Coast meeting and takes her place in Sunday’s rescheduled meeting. We feel she is capable of taking the next step after smashing the BM58 benchmark by 5.5L last start.

Newcastle Tuesday July 16

Provincial Maiden Handicap 1600m

AQUATICA

Kerry Parker/TBA

Comment: Was plain first-up at Kembla but did show significant improvement second-up last campaign and is ready for this distance rise.
