A progressive decline in the clearance rate since January presented some golden opportunities for Proven Thoroughbreds to strike at the Magic Millions March QTIS and Adelaide Yearling Sales.

The bonus prizemoney available to QTIS eligible horses, particularly fillies, is widely regarded as the best incentive scheme in Australia. So, a filly by Queensland’s premier stallion SPIRIT OF BOOM was a logical target. We were able to achieve that when bidding to $90,000 + GST for Lot 237 – SPIRIT OF BOOM x BOOM BOOM EPIC filly from Kenmore Lodge.

The last time (and indeed first time) we purchased a SPIRIT OF BOOM yearling from Kenmore was in 2022. That yearling is now named HEYOKA and looks very promising having broke her maiden on debut at Doomben before a luckless defeat when rising steeply in grade to benchmark 65 company. HEYOKA is currently back in training with O’Dea/Hoysted following a spell and will likely get a chance to prove herself during the Brisbane winter carnival.

“Funnily enough, this filly also reminded us of HEYOKA physically at the same age!” – Jamie Walter

A few days after the March QTIS Sale, we ventured to Adelaide, a happy hunting ground for Proven with graduates such as the top class PRIVATE EYE and unbeaten filly FORTUNEER who also has winter carnival aspirations this year.

On day two of the sale we snapped up lot 291 ALABAMA EXPRESS x WICHITA WOMAN colt for $100,000 + GST in conjunction with Kerry Parker. The sire has made a brilliant start to his stud career but the main factor that stood out to us was this colt’s pure physical. If you were to imagine the perfect example of REDOUTE’S CHOICE (paternal sire) and HIGH CHAPARRAL (maternal sire) mating, this would be the result!

Both yearlings will be eligible for the Magic Millions race series from next season which offers an unprecedented $23.7 million in prizemoney across 29 races, including a new $3 million slot race for 3YOs over 1100m. Details including share prices below:
