It took less than a week for Proven Thoroughbreds to register its first winner for 2024 as FORTUNEER kept her unbeaten record intact.

Following a most impressive maiden win on debut at Doomben last month, FORTUNEER was well-supported in betting to go two from two in the 1200m BM62 Handicap at Ipswich’s Saturday meeting.

The 3YO daughter of RUBICK duly saluted for favourite backers, thanks in no small part to apprentice jockey Emily Lang.

Lang found the one out-one back position during the middle stages of the race and left nothing to chance in the run home, peeling out before the corner en route to a one length victory.

FORTUNEER is likely to have one more run this campaign which will give her co-trainers Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted a much better grasp on her level of ability.

But given that only a handful of horses are able to win their first two starts, FORTUNEER has the makings of a well above average galloper.

She was purchased for $67,500 from Kambula Stud’s draft at the 2022 Adelaide Magic Millions Yearling Sale.

Congratulations to FORTUNEER’s big group of owners!
