In a memorable month for Proven fillies, THE BLACK CLOUD kept the momentum rolling with a most impressive debut at Gosford Thursday.
The 3YO daughter of SHAMUS AWARD had revealed talent in trials and duly converted that ability to race day, sprinting home in a blistering 32.8 seconds for the last 600m. While the overall time broke a 10 year race record for 1100m.
Trainer Joe Pride had approached the race with confidence suggesting;
“She’s presented like a filly that’s got a good sense of what she’s here for and a very competitive streak which we see in trackwork.”
After jumping on terms the filly quickly mustered speed, sat outside the leader and favourite Octavian Treasure, before asserting her dominance in the straight to score officially by 2 lengths.
Super impressive debutant for Shamus Award at Gosford.

THE BLACK CLOUD was a $100,000 yearling from Golden Grove’s draft at the 2022 Inglis Classic Sale.
The win was Proven’s 57th for 2023 and remarkably the 5th 3YO filly to break maiden status in December, three of whom were debutantes. As well as THE BLACK CLOUD, the Pride trained COSMONOVA had also saluted at Gosford one week prior.
That pair were supplemented by Queensland victors HEYOKA, FORTUNEER and the promising CARTWHEELS who spreadeagled her rivals at Ipswich on Christmas Eve.
