The final week of racing for 2023 begins with an action-packed Boxing Day.

Proven’s Boxing Day team of runners is spearheaded by the Joe Pride-trained stayer STOCKMAN (pictured) in the Group 3 Summer Cup (2000m) at Randwick, where the track will be rain-affected. Pride will also saddle up lightly-raced gelding ACCREDITED in the lucky last at the meeting.

On the same day at the Sunshine Coast, the Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted partnership will saddle up mares BETTER YET and DEEP CLEAN.

Twenty-four hours later at Murwillumbah, impressive debut winner FORTUNEER chases some BOBS bonuses in a 1200m Class 1 Handicap before first starter THE BLACK CLOUD lines up at Gosford on the 28th.

Stakes winning mare BETTER GET SET is Proven’s sole Saturday runner, scheduled to contest either the Buffering or Listed Nudgee Stakes at Doomben.

Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners

Randwick Tuesday December 26

G3 Summer Cup 2000m

STOCKMAN

Joe Pride/Reece Jones

Comment: Dropped sharply in trip to a mile last start on a dry track and ran very well. Gets his preferred conditions back up to 2000m and drawn to be within striking distance.

BM64 Handicap 1200m

ACCREDITED

Joe Pride/Rory Hutchings

Comment: Ran home solidly without threatening over 1100m here last start. Rider suggested he may have been hesitant to fully stretch out on the firm ground so a bit of give in the track should suit, as will the extra 100m.

Sunshine Coast Tuesday December 26

F&M BM60 Handicap 1200m

DEEP CLEAN

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Ben Thompson

Comment: Coming off a ninth placing here on December 1 but was only beaten 1.8 lengths on that occasion. Has a habit of missing the start so will need to jump on terms to be a winning hope.

BM62 Handicap 1600m

BETTER YET

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Ben Thompson

Comment: Well ridden to get the money over this track and distance last month. Drawn to effect and Ben Thompson sticks. Four and a half weeks between runs the query.

Murwillumbah Wednesday December 27

Class 1 Handicap 1200m

FORTUNEER

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Emily Lang (a0)

Comment: Wide but still far too good on debut at Doomben. Sure to improve off that and has the benefit of barrier three. Top chance again.

Gosford Thursday December 28

F&M Maiden Plate 1100m

THE BLACK CLOUD

Joe Pride/Jay Ford

Comment: Prominent in both trials this time in, winning her latest heat at Hawkesbury over 800m. Possesses natural speed and this looks an ideal race to kick off her career.

Doomben Saturday December 30

The Buffering 1350m/Listed Nudgee Stakes 1200m

BETTER GET SET

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/TBA

Comment: Placed in Listed company at both runs back from a break and looks ready to peak third-up. Yet to win at this track but has placed in four of six attempts so is due.
