Ipswich’s Christmas Eve meeting provided some festive celebrations for connections of 3YO filly CARTWHEELS.
Always gratifying to see a young horse break through within their first few starts, and so it was on Sunday as CARTWHEELS dispatched a modest maiden field at just her second outing.
The daughter of TRAPEZE ARTIST had debuted with a very sound second placing at Doomben so was well credentialed dropping to provincial grade 16 days later.
The wild card was the extremely heavy ground following overnight and morning storms which left the track rated a heavy 10.
However, CARTWHEELS, under an exquisite ride from stable apprentice Emily Lang, sailed through the sodden surface emerging from the box seat on the turn to put five lengths on her opponents by the time they reached the line.
Xmas comes early for CARTWHEELS (TRAPEZE ARTIST) as the 3yo filly breaks her maiden by 4.5 lengths! Our 5th winner in the last 5 days 🖐️ @ODeaHoysted @emilyyplang @mmsnippets @widdenstud @ZhongliTBreds @IpswichTurfClub @RaceQLD @Racing_QLD pic.twitter.com/6E2YplmVV3

“She was super today,” pronounced Emily who parlayed the victory into a winning treble with victories in the remaining two races.
“Once I whipped her out and let her balance up, she let down and was really starting to do her best work late. I couldn’t have asked her to do any more.”
Astutely identified by co-trainer Steve O’Dea at the Magic Millions 2022 Sale, the filly looks to be a value purchase already, having traded for just $70,000.
It was win number five in the last five days and 56th for the Proven team this momentous calendar year. The prizemoney, largely courtesy of the Everest triumph has risen to an unprecedented annual total of $18.5m with just under a week left in 2023.
