Two gallopers from the Proven Thoroughbreds/Pride Racing team are maidens no more following victories in consecutive races at Gosford Thursday.

The race to race double began with the regally bred COSMONOVA in the 1000m Maiden. The ZOUSTAR 3yo was ridden beautifully by Reece Jones in the one out-one back position, before overcoming a bump in the straight and surging to a decisive win.

The result was important in the context of COSMONOVA’s career as she is a half-sister to this year’s Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes winner, MAGIC TIME (by HELLBENT).

One would imagine COSMONOVA is now worth every cent of the $220,000 Proven and Pride paid for her at the 2022 Premier Sale from the draft of Milburn Creek.

Celebrations in the Winners’ Room were soon after supplemented by the connections of SLIPSTREAMING, an emphatic 4.5 length winner of the 1900m Class 1 & Maiden Plate.

A change of tactics to ride the 4yo mare from in front, proved a masterstroke by rider Alysha Collett, as a sequence of 8 defeats was finally brought to an end.

A daughter of CONTRIBUTER, SLIPSTREAMING was a $37,000 yearling from Mapperley Stud at the 2021 NZB Karaka Sale.

In what’s been a stellar 2023 for Proven and Pride Racing, there are still a few irons in the fire remaining. Last start winner LITTLE COINTREAU heads up to Wyong Saturday whilst stable stalwart STOCKMAN is down to run in Group 3 Summer Cup (2000m) on Boxing Day.
