A host of runners from our Queensland base are set to face the starter this week, most notably the resuming SPIN DOCTOR.
SPIN DOCTOR (pictured) was an impressive winner on debut before finishing third in the $500,000 QTIS Jewel during his first campaign. The son of TRAPEZE ARTIST returns to action at Doomben on Saturday but will likely need the hit-out with longer distance races on the horizon.
Stablemate SHOT OF WHISKEY is also in the 1200m 3YO Handicap and looks poised to run well following an unlucky first-up defeat as favourite a fortnight ago.
CANADIAN DANCER and CONTEMPTUOUS round out our Saturday contingent of runners. But before we head to Doomben, NAVAL TRADER will be chasing his second win in five career starts when he lines up at a rare Sunshine Coast midweek meeting.
Meanwhile, our stakes placed filly TERANGA sold for $95,000 as a broodmare prospect on the Inglis Digital Sale this week. The buyer was Andrew McGuiness.

Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners
Sunshine Coast Wednesday Aug 23
Class 2 Handicap 1200m
HANG FIVE
Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Justin Huxtable
Comment: Done no favours with the draw so will need plenty of luck but is the class runner of the race and is a winner second-up.
BM65 Handicap 1400m
NAVAL TRADER
Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Ben Thompson
Comment: Didn’t have the clearest of passages first-up at Doomben but doubt he would have troubled the winner who has since won again impressively in Saturday metropolitan company. Bigger track and 1400m big pluses.
Warwick Thursday August 24
Maiden Handicap 1350m
CHAIRLIFT
Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Emily Lang (a)
Comment: Coming off a fair effort on debut when fourth at Dalby. Fitter and all the better for that experience.
BM65 Handicap 800m
UNDERHAND
Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Emily Lang (a)
Comment: Racing well. Denied a hat-trick of wins by promising stablemate last time out and stays at her preferred distance range.
Doomben Saturday August 26
QTIS 3YO Plate 1200m
SHOT OF WHISKEY
Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Ben Thompson
Comment: Didn’t have a great deal of luck in a sit-and-sprint affair first-up at Eagle Farm. Finished sixth on that occasion but was only 0.8 lengths from the winner. Up in distance from a suitable barrier, expecting him to run very well.
SPIN DOCTOR
Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Jag Guthmann-Chester
Comment: Promising 3yo resuming. Likely to find a couple of these too sharp, particularly from a wide barrier around Doomben but does have a touch of class.
Open Handicap 1200m
CONTEMPTUOUS
Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Jaden Lloyd
Comment: Freshened up since an unplaced finish at the Sunshine Coast last month. Usually consistent type but been out of form of late so needs to lift.
BM85 Handicap 1600m
CANADIAN DANCER
Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Ben Thompson
Comment: Last start winner but faces a task from a very wide gate. Speed of the race will be key to her chances.
