The barest of margins made all the difference for CANADIAN DANCER in the closer at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

In one of the closest photo finishes you will see, CANADIAN DANCER survived a late charge by race favourite KINLOCH to claim the 1400m BM85 Handicap for co-trainers Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted.

Jockey Ben Thompson made the most of a fast start on CANADIAN DANCER by positioning outside the leader SIR WARWICK.

The daughter of VANCOUVER took over soon after the field straightened and looked every bit the winner when she kicked away at the furlong marker but had to survive an almighty scare when KINLOCH descended in the final bounds to send the result upstairs to the judge.

A couple of agonising minutes later, CANADIAN DANCER was declared the winner, much to the delight of her ownership group.

Winner of the Listed Princess Stakes (1600m) last season, the rising 5YO mare is building a handy record with four wins and five placings from only 13 career starts.

With $220,000 in prizemoney and a broodmare value of at least six figures, CANADIAN DANCER was bought by Proven for just $50,000 from Vinery Stud’s draft at the 2020 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale.

She becomes our 48th winner for 2022-23, with the season set to renew on Tuesday August 1.
