As many as 10 Proven Thoroughbreds runners are set to face the starter this week as season 2022-23 draws to a close.
With 45 winners and well over $10 million in prizemoney, it has certainly been a season to remember for Proven and hopefully we can add a little more to that tally before the season renews on Tuesday August 1.
One of runner of interest this week is the first starter TRAVIATA (pictured). The 2YO daughter of DEEP FIELD makes her debut at Doomben’s Wednesday fixture after putting her opposition to the sword in a recent barrier trial. As much as you can be confident about unraced horses, this filly looks the ultimate professional.
Meanwhile 4YO mares CANADIAN DANCER (Eagle Farm, Saturday) and RUBINOCCHI (Randwick, Saturday) are also set to run well. Between them, they have banked more than $414,000 in prizemoney from 27 starts.
This Sunday will be our inaugural Kerry Parker open morning. We look forward to welcoming everyone to Kerry’s Kembla Grange stables for brunch from 10.45am. Yearlings by SO YOU THINK, CAPITALIST, ALMANZOR & SAXON WARRIOR will be paraded as well as stable stars THINK IT OVER & HOPE IN YOUR HEART.

BLACK BOOKER
COSMONOVA was an impressive trial winner at Warwick Farm on Monday morning. The well-bred daughter of ZOUSTAR is a half-sister to MAGIC TIME and if she’s got anything like her half-sister’s ability then she will be one to watch when she makes her race debut. Whether that will be this preparation or the next, is for trainer Joe Pride to decide.
Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners
Gatton Tuesday July 25
QTIS 3YO BM62 Handicap 860m
UNDERHAND
Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Emily Lang
Comment: Last start winner with another great opportunity to cash in on the QTIS Fillies bonuses before the end of the season. Should have enough early speed to overcome an awkward draw and is proven over this track and distance.
Doomben Wednesday July 26
QTIS 2YO Fillies Maiden Plate 1200m
TRAVIATA
Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Ben Thompson
Comment: On debut. Comfortably won a 1050m Deagon trial earlier this month so should be ready for 1200m first-up, particularly from the inside barrier.
Kembla Thursday July 27
Maiden Handicap 1600m
CREWMAN
Joe Pride/Tyler Schiller
Comment: Hasn’t taken his trial form to the races this preparation, finishing down the course in both runs back from a spell. Needs to rediscover the form that saw him run third on debut here in January.
Eagle Farm Saturday July 29
BM85 Handicap 1400m
CANADIAN DANCER
Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/TBA
Comment: Didn’t quite let down like we know she can when fourth over 1200m at Doomben. Much better suited up to 1400m on bigger track and plunges in weight.
Randwick Saturday July 29
BM88 Handicap 1100m/3&4YO BM72 Handicap 1100m
RUBINOCCHI
Joe Pride/TBA
Comment: Terrific return from a long break here a fortnight ago. Stuck on resolutely in a fast race to finish fourth. Will be improved for the run and has won twice when two weeks between starts.
Sunshine Coast Sunday July 30
Open Handicap 1000m
CONTEMPTUOUS
Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/TBA
Comment: Placed at big odds first-up behind PRINCE OF BOOM and FAR TOO EASY in the Group 2 Moreton Cup then ran below expectations when riding a hot speed in the Group 3 Healey Stakes. Been kept fresh since and can bounce back.
RED RUBI
Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/TBA
Comment: 1000m specialist third-up from a lengthy spell so should be ready to peak. Significantly, three of her six career wins have come over this track and distance.
QTIS 3YO Maiden Handicap 1400m
CHAIRLIFT
Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/TBA
Comment: First-starter. Hasn’t shown up at the trials but is bred to get over a bit of ground so hoping she can hit the line strongly over 1400m.
QTIS 3YO Maiden Plate 1100m
POLARISING
Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/TBA
Comment: Resumed with a solid third placing over 1000m here a fortnight ago. Had to go back from a wide gate on that occasion so looking for her to travel closer to the speed rising to 1100m.
QTIS 3YO Maiden Plate 1100m
HANG FIVE
Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/TBA
Comment: Yet to win first-up but been placed in all three attempts. Drops to provincial grade for the first time in his nine-start career so looks well placed, providing he comes through his trial on Tuesday in good shape.
