Popular mare BETTER GET SET will line up in the one of the final stakes races of the season on Wednesday.
Affectionately known around the Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted stables as ‘Betty’, the daughter of BETTER THAN READY is all set to run in the $200,000 Listed Ramornie Handicap (1200m) at Grafton.
Recognised as the biggest handicap sprint in country NSW, the Ramornie Handicap has attracted another competitive field. Should BETTER GET SET prevail, Proven’s tally of stakes winners for the season will climb to 13.
BETTER GET SET’s stud career is already secured having won the Listed Just Now Stakes (1300m) at Eagle Farm in December.
Other runners this week include the returning RUBINOCCHI for Joe Pride at Randwick on Saturday. The speedy daughter of RUBICK contests the BM78 Handicap (1000m) in pursuit of her fifth win from 15 career starts.
Then at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday, Proven and O’Dea/Hoysted will take a strong team of three to the races – TERANGA, OCEAN ZAR and POLARISING.
Earlier this month we announced a date for our inaugural Open Day with trainer Kerry Parker. All are welcome at Kerry’s Kembla Grange stables from 10.45am on Sunday July 30.
A multiple Group 1 winning trainer in the last five years, Kerry is vastly underrated. As such, his select stable represents great opportunity for Proven clients and we look forward to a long association in much the same manner as the relationships we’ve carved out with the O’Dea/Hoysted team and Joe Pride. Yearlings by SO YOU THINK, CAPITALIST, ALMANZOR & SAXON WARRIOR will be paraded as well as stable stars THINK IT OVER & HOPE IN YOUR HEART. To register your attendance please get in touch via our CONTACT US page.

BLACK BOOKER
TRAVIATA turned heads with an impressive barrier trial win at Deagon on Tuesday. For her first public hit-out, the 3YO filly could hardly have done more, comfortably winning the 1050m heat by a widening 2.75 lengths. Looking forward to when she makes her race debut.
Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners
Grafton Wednesday July 12
Listed Ramornie Handicap 1200m
BETTER GET SET
Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Jaden Lloyd
Comment: Ready to peak third-up following two solid runs back from a spell, the latest being a second placing in the Listed Gai Waterhouse Classic at Ipswich. Drawn to position midfield and gets in on the minimum weight. Each-way.
Doomben Wednesday July 12
BM68 Handicap 1110m
RICH LISTER
Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Cejay Graham
Comment: Finally drawn a gate after being scratched a few times in recent weeks. Races well on the fresh side should be at peak fitness now third-up from a long spell. Gets blinkers on first time as well.
Randwick Saturday July 15
BM78 Handicap 1000m
RUBINOCCHI
Joe Pride/Sam Clipperton
Comment: Resuming from a lengthy spell but showed plenty of speed in her latest trial so should have the requisite sharpness in her legs to be competitive.
Sunshine Coast Sunday July 16
Class 2 Handicap 1400m
TERANGA
Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/TBA
Comment: Never got a crack at them when resuming at Doomben. Looks beautifully placed in this grade so expecting her to be in the finish.
QTIS 3YO BM65 Handicap 1400m
OCEAN ZAR
Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/TBA
Comment: Impressive winner at Eagle Farm last start. Gets to another big track which should suit and probably has more upside than most of her rivals here.
QTIS 3YO Maiden Handicap 1000m
POLARISING
Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/TBA
Comment: Shown ability in three starts to date and been prominent in her trials this time in. First-up last campaign she looked the winner here, only to be bloused late. A similar performance would just about have her winning this.
