A handful or promising Pride-trained 3YOs will step out this week as well as high profile stablemate PRIVATE EYE.

MOUNT WARNING and SLIPSTREAMING are two fillies that could go to a new level this preparation having been given time to mature by trainer Joe Pride. The former contests the opening event at Gosford on ANZAC day before SLIPSTREAMING resumes at Wyong on Thursday.

Then on Saturday, PRIVATE EYE gets his Brisbane campaign underway in the Group 2 Victory Stakes (1200m) at Eagle Farm after persistent rain in Sydney scuppered plans to run in the Group 1 All Aged Stakes (1400m) at Randwick.

Providing he runs up to expectations in the Victory Stakes, PRIVATE EYE will head back to Eagle Farm for the $1 million Group 1 Kingsford Smith Cup (1300m) on May 27.

So there is plenty to look forward to for our Proven owners, some of whom made the most of spectacular Brisbane weather at our annual Kolora Lodge-O’Dea/Hoysted open day on Sunday. CLICK HERE to view a photo gallery of the event.

It would be remiss of us not to acknowledge the incredibly tragic news that rocked the racing world on Monday. 34yo jockey Dean Holland, winner of the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap on IN SECRET less than six weeks ago, died from a fall in the first race at Donald. Whilst extremely rare, death is a very real risk that we ask jockeys to take every time they are legged aboard a horse. It might be worth remembering this the next time vitriol is directed at a jockey for a perceived ‘bad ride’. They are only human like us and have made the choice to undertake an extremely difficult and high-pressure profession. Unfortunately for Holland, his love and commitment to his job has claimed his life. Holland leaves behind his wife Lucy and four children under the age of five. BLACK BOOKER

CANADIAN DANCER looked a good thing beaten when resuming over 1200m a Doomben last Saturday. The stakes winning mare struck major traffic issues in the run home but managed to slice through the pack and grab third. She will be well placed in the Silk Stocking Stakes (1400m) at the Sunshine Coast next start where she will plunge in weight.

Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners

Gosford Tuesday Apr 25

Maiden Plate 1000m

MOUNT WARNING

Joe Pride/Keagan Latham

Comment: Promising filly returning from a break. Recent trials show she has come back in great order and looks a deserved favourite in this small field.

Kembla Grange Wednesday Apr 26

Maiden Handicap 1300m

LITTLE COINTREAU

Joe Pride/Keagan Latham

Comment: Has finished within two lengths of the winner in two career starts and resumes here off the back solid metropolitan trials. Appears to have come back a stronger, more mature horse and will be suited going straight to 1300m from the inside barrier.

LICHESTER

Joe Pride/Jay Ford

Comment: Second-up. Worked home steadily to finish fourth in a strong maiden at Hawkesbury over 1100m. Can only improve up to 1200m.

Wyong Thursday Apr 27

Maiden Handicap 1200m

SLIPSTREAMING

Joe Pride/Tyler Schiller

Comment: Talented filly resuming. Finished an eye-catching fifth at only career start last preparation and has trialled super this time in. Will be more effective once she gets over ground but expecting her to run a cheeky race first-up.

Maiden Handicap 1600m

VEGAS ON FIRE

Joe Pride/Jay Ford

Comment: Finished third at Newcastle on debut last month before an ok fifth at Hawkesbury when rising to 1400m. Always given the impression she is looking for ground so should be ready to peak up to 1600m now.

LICHESTER

Joe Pride/Jay Ford

Comment: Second-up. Worked home steadily to finish fourth in a strong maiden at Hawkesbury over 1100m. Can only improve up to 1200m and has drawn to get favours in the run.

Eagle Farm Saturday Apr 29

Victory Stakes 1200m

PRIVATE EYE

Joe Pride/Brenton Avdulla

Comment: Class horse racing outside the elite company for the first time since demolishing a Group 2 field in the Gilgai Stakes at Flemington in October. Loves Eagle Farm and is ready to run well after being scratched from the All Aged Stakes due to a wet track.
