SECRET TALES’ fifth career win on Wednesday was the perfect advertisement for the revamped QTIS bonus scheme.
The Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted-trained mare was steered by Nikita Beriman to a narrow but decisive victory in the 1350m BM70 Handicap at Doomben’s midweek fixture.
With the QTIS bonus prizemoney, SECRET TALES collected $36,750 for the win, elevating her career earnings past $210,000 from 16 starts.
Under the old QTIS eligibility rules, only 2YOs and 3YOs could access bonus prizemoney in select races, however a recent amendment by Racing QLD has expanded the scheme to include older horses.
So despite being a 4YO, SECRET TALES earned the equivalent of a BOBS eligible 2YO/3YO winner in Sydney on the same day!
The latest round of improvements to the QTIS scheme have made it undoubtedly the best bonus prizemoney initiative in Australia.
Indeed, the lucrative QTIS Jewel meeting is coming up on March 18 at Doomben and Proven is hoping to have a couple of runners in the $500,000 2YO event in SHOT OF WHISKEY (won on debut at the Sunshine Coast last Sunday) and SPIN DOCTOR (scheduled to debut at Eagle Farm this Saturday).
SECRET TALES is a daughter of the late SPILL THE BEANS and was purchased privately by Proven Thoroughbreds for a bargain $20,000.
She made national headlines back in 2021 after breaking her maiden by a record 18 lengths at the Gold Coast over 1400m.
With 16 winners since January 1, Proven is currently churning out a winner every 3.75 days. We’ve been around long enough to know that strike rate is not sustainable so we are going to enjoy it for as long as we can!
