Whilst MERSEYSIDE looked the winner of a modest BM65 on Friday night at the Sunshine Coast, like all fancied horses, it’s quite another matter to actually convert the probable into a decisive victory.
The BETTER THAN READY 4YO had been a model of consistency in her three prior runs this preparation and was given a lovely, confident ride by Ben Thompson to secure her 4th victory in just 14 starts, asserting her dominance soon after straightening.
“She was great tonight. Ticked the 1400m box and if she keeps turning up like this, she will have no trouble going through her grades,” predicted Thompson post-race.
A sale bargain at just $36k from the 2020 Magic Millions March Sale, MERSEYSIDE like many of the BETTER THAN READY stock, looks to be improving with age.
However not many of them get beyond 1400m, but with this mare being out of a HIGH CHAPARRAL mare, one would think she is going to be even better out to a mile.
Friday night’s victory was Proven’s 9th for the calendar year and 20th for the 22/23 season and a continues a stellar run for the O’Dea/Hoysted team.
