Proven Thoroughbreds will have eyes on all three of the country’s major metropolitan meetings this Saturday.
SCALLOPINI (pictured) lines up in the Listed Elms Handicap at Flemington, STELLAR MAGIC heads south to Rosehill while THATFEELSBETTER runs at Doomben.
Some less familiar runners in the black and lime green this week include HEDGE FUND, returning from a lengthy spell for Kerry Parker at Hawkesbury on Tuesday, and first starters CHICANE and WITH INTENT.
Proven will be hoping to continue a fantastic start to 2023 that has seen eight winners including last Saturday’s interstate metro double courtesy of THINK ABOUT IT and OCEAN TREATY.
This Inglis Classic Yearling Sale concluded on Tuesday and Proven was active throughout, acquiring yearlings for Joe Pride, Kerry Parker and Steve O’Dea/Matt Hoysted. This crop of yearlings will be the first to access the auction house’s game-changing prizemoney initiative that was announced last week. More information on this fantastic innovation can be found HERE.
Share prices on our four acquisitions from last month’s NZB Karaka Sale have now been confirmed. For more details you can visit our AVAILABLE HORSES page.

Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners
Hawkesbury Tuesday Feb 14
Midway 4YO & UP Maiden Handicap 1100m:
HEDGE FUND
Kerry Parker/Brenton Avdulla
Comment: Coming back from a long injury-enforced break but showed glimpses of talent in two runs in his first preparation. Has won a trial leading into this but may be a bit rusty after 12 months off the scene.
Sunshine Coast Friday Feb 17
BM65 Handicap 1400m:
MERSEYSIDE
Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/TBA
Comment: Racing in good form. Followed a first-up win with two sound placings and should appreciate getting out to 1400m.
QTIS 3YO Maiden Handicap 1200m:
CHICANE
Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/TBA
Comment: Shown steady improvement in his trials, the latest being a close-up second at Doomben. 1200m looks a suitable starting point for this 3YO gelding.
Maiden Handicap 1000m:
MINGLE
Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/TBA
Comment: Has disappointed in only two starts to date but was subsequently found to have an elevated temperature after both runs. Well bred filly and has shown ability in her trials.
Eagle Farm Saturday Feb 18
Class 3 Plate 1200m:
THATFEELSBETTER
Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/TBA
Comment: Won well first-up at the Sunshine Coast and then probably found his rivals too sharp staying at the 1000m second-up at Eagle Farm earlier this month. Goes up to 1200m now and was narrowly beaten third-up at this venue last preparation.
Rosehill Saturday Feb 18
3&4YO BM78 Handicap 1100m:
STELLAR MAGIC
Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/TBA
Comment: Excellent return at Doomben when running home powerfully to just miss the winner who had the more economical run. Has won second-up previously and looks well placed for a successful hit and run mission.
Flemington Saturday Feb 18
Listed Elms Handicap 1400m:
SCALLOPINI
Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Damian Lane
Comment: Classy veteran returning to the scene of his last stakes win in the spring. Has a decent impost of 60kg but will carry a similar weight to most of the main chances. Has finished in the money in 50% of his second-up runs.
Sunshine Coast Sunday Feb 19
QTIS 3YO Fillies Maiden Plate 1000m:
WITH INTENT
Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/TBA
Comment: First starter given time. Finished within a neck of the winner in her latest trial and looks sharp enough for the 1000m.
