Everest week is here and the PRIVATE EYE ownership team couldn’t be more excited.

It was last Thursday when we announced that Inglis had secured PRIVATE EYE to run in their slot for the 2022 edition of The Everest (1200m). The Joe Pride-trained gelding will race in a Proven Thoroughbreds jacket with an Inglis cap to recognise both parties in the $15 million showpiece at Randwick this Saturday.

Obviously we would be absolutely thrilled to win the event but once you get to the top level, especially in a race of this calibre, to just have a runner is an achievement in itself.

The build up to the race includes the barrier draw on Tuesday night which will be televised from 7.30pm and an owners’ ball on Thursday evening.

Proven will also be represented by STOCKMAN in the $500,000 St Leger (2600m) at the Randwick meeting and the tough gelding looks perfectly placed to return to the winners’ stall as he continues on his journey towards the $8 million Melbourne Cup on November 1.

Our other runners include the well performed STELLAR MAGIC at Eagle Farm on Saturday as well as debutantes DEEP CLEAN and LICHESTER.

Upcoming Proven Thoroughbreds runners

Ipswich Wednesday Oct 12

Class 3 Handicap 1350m:

HE KNOWS

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Boris Thornton

Comment: Wasn’t given much chance over 1350m at Doomben last start. Only won twice from 20 starts but capable of bouncing back in this grade.

Randwick Saturday Oct 15

The Everest 1200m:

PRIVATE EYE

Joe Pride/Brenton Avdulla

Comment: Brilliant first-up winner of the Gilgai down the Flemington straight. A wet Randwick 1200m presents a different challenge but his class puts him in good stead.

St Leger 2600m:

STOCKMAN

Joe Pride/Sam Clipperton

Comment: Only beaten a length as topweight in the Metropolitan last outing. Comes back to set weights and penalties here and will have no problems with the extra distance. Relishes wet ground too.

Eagle Farm Saturday Oct 15

NMW Handicap 1200m:

BETTER GET SET

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Ben Thompson

Comment: Got going late first-up at the Gold Coast where she appeared to resent a rain-affected surface. This is a much easier race and was a certainty beat second-up last preparation.

Class 3 Plate 1000m:

STELLAR MAGIC

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/Ben Thompson

Comment: Classy mare dropping sharply in grade. Goes well fresh and was a comfortable trial winner earlier this month. Her form around ZAPATEO looks far superior to anything else here.

Gold Coast Saturday Oct 15

QTIS 3YO Maiden Plate 1350m:

AFFECTIONATE

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/TBA

Comment: Resuming. Only run in her first campaign was an eye-catching fourth over this trip at Doomben. Likely to need this hit out as she gets prepared for longer races.

Newcastle Saturday Oct 15

Maiden Handicap 1200m:

LICHESTER

Joe Pride/Jean Van Overmeire

Comment: First starter who’s been prominent in her latest two Sydney metro trials. This looks a suitable race to kick off her career.

Sunshine Coast Sunday Oct 16

Class 1 Handicap 1000m:

NEXT TO EXCEL

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/TBA

Comment: Back after 15 months off the scene. Been trialling well in preparation for this but may well need the hit out after such a long time off.

Fillies & Mares Maiden Plate 1200m:

DEEP CLEAN

Steve O’Dea & Matt Hoysted/TBA

Comment: 4YO mare on debut. Wasn’t broken in until she was a 2YO but has shown above average ability in her trials and looks a genuine winning chance.
