The Steve O’Dea and Matt Hoysted-trained pair FETCH and RED RUBI built on their impressive winning strike rates when combining for a race to race double at Doomben’s midweek meeting.

3YO filly FETCH (pictured) brought up the trainers’ 50th metropolitan winner for the season when saluting as favourite in the 1050m BM70 Handicap.

A composed steer by Ben Thompson had the daughter of SEBRING conserving energy in the leader’s slipstream midrace.

Thompson set FETCH alight on the home turn and the filly wore down the leader to score by three-quarters of a length.

A $120,000 purchase from the 2020 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, FETCH now has three wins and a second to her name from just six career outings. The stable is likely to target a Saturday metropolitan race for her next start.

RED RUBI was an easing $6 chance in the 1050m Class 5 Handicap but won like an odds-on pop courtesy of a frantic early pace and a patient ride by Boris Thornton.

Not seen since winning impressively first-up at the Sunshine Coast in April, RED RUBI put her rivals to the sword again, this time to the tune of 2.25 lengths eased down.

With five wins and two placings from 13 starts, the daughter of RUBICK is building an imposing record.

And being a half-sister to our three-time stakes winner SCALLOPINI, she is becoming a valuable investment for her owners, particularly as she only cost $35,000 as a yearling at the 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast January Sale.

SCALLOPINI is currently sweating on a start in Saturday’s Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap after being made the first emergency. For obvious reasons, we are desperately hoping he can make the final field and make his presence felt!

The alternative is the Listed Wayne Wilson (1600m) on the same program for which he is one of nine acceptors.

Our other runner on Wednesday was the debutante AFFECTIONATE, who finished an encouraging fourth in the 1350m 3YO Maiden Plate.

Proven Thoroughbreds’ tally of winners for the season has now climbed to 55 with prizemoney in excess of $4 million.
